New LG Shine with Mobile TV

The LG Shine has been a top-selling phone for LG since its release last year. The Shine is a great looking designer phone, which means its features aren't all that great. LG have decided to rectify this, though, with two new LG Shine models, both of which come with mobile TV.

The LG Shine TV Folder (LG-LB2500) is, as you can probably guess, a folder (or clamshell) design, while the LG Shine TV Slide (LG-SB630/KB6300/ LB6300) is a slider (the clue's in the name - no, really!) that's just 14mm thin. Both LG Shines come with a 2.2" screen, 2 megapixel camera and 1GB memo

The short specs sheet of LG-LB2500:

  • Dimensions: 96.5x49.5x14.6 mm

  • Weight: 106 g

LG KC 910 Renoir (A press Release)

LG Launches Artistically Inspired Handset, Renoir

Seoul, Korea, October 3, 2008- LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, announced the official launch of its LG-KC910, a slim yet feature-packed full touchscreen 8 megapixel multimedia phone. This artistic new handset, known as Renoir, goes on sale in Europe in early October and has a large palate of features like Wi-Fi, Dolby® Mobile from Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB), and camera capabilities that even surpass those found on standalone digital cameras.

“Renoir is much more than a camera phone. It truly puts everything at your fingertips and provides a multi-sensorial experience through sight, sound and touch,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The 8 megapixel camera is only one aspect of the phone. Its unique combination of features, including a full touchscreen interface, Dolby Mobile for Music and built in support for Wi-Fi and A-GPS, allow Renoir to be used in equally unique ways.”

Focus on Touch-Enhanced High Quality Camera

Renoir takes super-sharp 8 megapixel pictures that can be edited in camera and are instantly ready for sharing online or printing. The phone’s list of features includes some that are usually only found on extremely high-end standalone cameras, such as Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics, a Xenon flash, auto and manual focus, sensitivity up to ISO 1600 and geo-tagging.

Renoir takes the full advantage capabilities as a full touchscreen 8 megapixel phone, with unique touch-enhanced features. One feature, Touch Shot, makes it easy to get the right shot every time by allowing photographers to focus on any object by touching it on screen. The shutter fires automatically when the user’s finger is removed from the screen. Touch Shot, a first for a mobile phone, also reduces camera shake and eliminates the need to search for the shutter release button.

One major advantage Renoir has over standalone digital cameras is its ability to connect to the latest 3G HSDPA networks and Wi-Fi. This eliminates the need to wait to share pictures with the world. They can be instantly and effortlessly uploaded and shared with the world from almost anywhere. Geo-tagging, enabled by Renoir’s A-GPS capabilities, makes it easy to keep track of where pictures were taken and plot them using online mapping websites.

Special shot modes give pictures that special look that usually requires a professional touch. Beauty Shot removes spots and imperfections from people’s faces, while also making them appear brighter and clearer in photos. The feature is smart enough to recognize faces and only apply the effect to the right areas. Art Shot allows users to apply a number of creative preset effects, from common changes like black and white to less common and more nuanced ones like warm or cool tone.

Share in an Unrivalled Multimedia Experience

Renoir delivers a full multimedia experience that stimulates the senses. . Renoir is also the first handset created for the worldwide market to include Dolby Mobile. This integrated suite of audio processing technologies from Dolby Laboratories brings depth and richness as well as clean, powerful bass to deliver a more immersing and engaging listening experience for music.

Renoir records video better than any other mobile phone, with the ability to capture super-high-quality 120 frame per second slow-motion video or to compress longer events using five frame per second time lapse recording. A noise-free microphone ensures that audio is just as crisp as the video it accompanies. Built-in support for DivX and Xvid encoded video means that Renoir can provide hours of entertainment straight out of the box.

Just as with photos, Renoir can upload any user generated content it creates including audio, video or text, over 3G HSDPA networks or Wi-Fi. Renoir is ready for the complete web 2.0 experience, fully able to use web-based applications, including those that require GPS location.

LG Intros the KP500 Cookie

LG has just unveiled a new mobile handset called KP500. There are two things which made the LG KP500 stand-out from the rest - affordability and full touchs screen feature. I know, you must be thinking of the iPhone by now. But hey, the LG KP500 definitely comes in way cheaper price tag.

The LG KP500 features LG’s latest precision refinements when the human touch meets the vivid digital screen in a slim-profiled and lightweight mobile handset which will be available in black Vandyke brown, Anodizing silver and elegant gold. The LG KP500 is a GSM phone that will operate on four frequency bands and will be available in 39 languages as well once it is released worldwide. For easy and quick operation, the LG KP500 has a very friendly User Interface which even allows users to attach a friend’s photo for speed dial and touch their friends’ photos to call then on their mobile phone.

In addition, the LG KP500 utilizes an embedded stylus pen which is concealed in the base which can be easily removed to use the phone’s handwriting recognition program. This is best suited for writing memos and text messages. It also has a QWERTY onscreen keyboard which slides into view when the phone is held horizontally. Its auto-rotating feature is most useful for shifting images or documents for proper viewing no matter which way the handset is held.

The LG KP500 also comes packed with motion sensor games which can be played by flipping, turning and shifting the phone. This is one feature which is definitely so iPhone.

Other features of the LG KP500 phone include; a 3-inch full touch screen, active flash UI, handwriting recognition function, motion sensor games, auto rotating display, stylus pen, 48MB internal memory, 350 hour standby time and 3.5 hour talktime.

The LG KP500 will be available by the end of October in Europe and then to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, we keep on saying that the LG KP500 is affordable phone. Yet, LG has not announce its pricing details. Source

LG KF510

LG are pretty excited about the LG KF510 handset announced at this years Mobile World Congress, so much so that they announced it a few days early.

Now that LG have release full details of the KF510 we can see that it's an attractive slider device with features that very much put it into the "fashion phone" category.

Since a lot of the KF510's appeals are its looks, then lets start there. The handset is primarily constructed of metal and glass, with a gradated paint job on the front that gives it a distinctive look. The primary control keys are touch sensitive, with a fairly standard LG numeric keypad underneath. At 10.9mm thick, the LG KF510 is a pretty slim device.
The display is a 2.2" 240 x 320 pixel panel, and LG have included a light sensor on the front (it looks like a video calling camera, but isn't). The sensor allows the KF510's screen brightness to adjust depending on ambient lighting conditions.
On the back is a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. The KF510 also has Bluetooth, a USB connection and accepts microSD memory cards.
This is a nice looking phone, but we're a little doubtful about the touch-sensitive pad.. although hopefully LG have learned from the Chocolate which had a nasty habit of deleting all the contacts accidentally.
The LG KF510 is a tri-band GSM phone supporting GPRS and EDGE data, but not 3G. Physically it measures 105 x 50 x 11mm, but LG haven't specified weight or battery life.

Apple 3G iPhone

More 3G iPhone rumours doing the rounds, this time from wireless chip and DSP sector analyst Will Strauss of Forward Concepts.

Strauss is convinced that Apple are working on a 3G iPhone, and expects it to be announced at the same time that Apple announces which operator it has chosen for the iPhone in each European country in which it will be sold.

According to EETimes, this announcement "...is expected imminently, and could come as soon as this week."

Why wait for the iPhone, though, when you can get the same user interface in the Apple iPod Touch, which is out now and much cheaper.

More details after the jump.

The latest speculation suggests that Orange will get the iPhone for France, T-Mobile for Germany, and O2 for the UK. Vodafone seems to be clearly out of the running, with Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin complaining that "it's a 2G phone, not 3G. When it's a broadband phone we will be interested in carrying it."

No bad feelings there, then!

In response to losing out on the iPhone, Vodafone have launched their own music site with over 1,000,000 tunes to download, and will be pushing the Samsung F700 as an alternative to the iPhone.

This might not be such a bad idea. The iPhone is pretty weak as a phone compared to other smartphones out there, with its glorious user interface the only major selling point.

However, the same interface is now available on the new Apple iPod Touch, which includes a web browser and Wi-Fi. In fact, it includes the entire iPhone operating system, everything, in fact, except the ability to make a phone call!

So my advice would be to get an Apple iPod Touch for your music needs, and get a decent smartphone, such as the Samsung F700, Nokia E90, Toshiba G900 or one of the HTCs, for your communication needs.

Fujitsu Lifebook Mobile PC notebook computers, Linux certified

Four new Fujitsu Lifebook notebook computers have recently received Novell YES Certification for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) Linux distribution.

The Lifebook models include the S6510, T2010, P1620 and the U810. Such certification is important because it only means one thing, that the laptops have passed very stringent tests and are compatible with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell but ironically, these certified laptops are sold with pre-installed Windows system.

Fujitsu’s senior director of mobile product marketing, Paul Moore happily exclaimed:
“Fujitsu customers have expressed interest in gaining support for the Linux operating system. With Novell YES certification for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop on four popular LifeBook Series convertible tablet PCs and notebooks, Fujitsu provides these customers the opportunity to select the highly reliable and durable Fujitsu notebook that meets their business requirements.”

As one of the leading providers of communications and IT solutions, Fujitsu hopes to bring their products to more consumers, which seems to include Linux users. But really, what’s the point of this certification if the new Fujitsu computers are already pre-installed with Windows? But then again, at least people have more choices and certainly anything certified looks more real and reliable, right

Fujitsu F705i - World’s Slimmest Waterproof Mobile Phone

The Japanese Fujitsu
company introduces the F705i, a 3G mobile phone that is said to be the world’s thinnest with its impressive 13.7mm in thickness.

The phone is also waterproof and can take a 30 minute dip at 1 meters depth without being damaged. It features a 1.3 megapixel camera with “Quick Zoom” and can be used as a videophone.

Fujitsu Delivers The F705i:

The World’s Slimmest,
Waterproof 3G Mobile Phone With a thickness of only 13.7mm, the F705i is the slimmest, waterproof phone ever made. Our little wonder meets IPX5 and IPX7 waterproof standards; the phone should continue operating after being sprayed with water or plunged underwater (1m max for 30 minutes). Perfect for those who use their phone at hot springs (Japanese onsen) or in the bathtub.
The F705i also features the Super Clear Voice and Super Clear Mike, which automatically adjusts the volume of an incoming caller’s voice according to the ambient noise level. Our device also receives a 1.3Mpix camera, the Quick Zoom (in order to increase or decrease the size of the text displayed on the screen). 106x49x13.7mm, 111g, 170min of talk time and 100min for videophone.

Fujitsu MultiSlider Cell Phone

Fujitsu have shown off two new concept phones featuring a novel four-way slider design called, appropriately (if unimaginatively), the "Multi Slider".
The new concept features a keypad that slides out from underneath the mobile phone in all four directions, revealing a different set of keys each time. Just when you thought every sliding variant had been tried in mobile phone land, it seems Fujitsu decided they could go one better!
Fujitsu were also showing off another mobile phone concept called simply the Slider. This concept phone features a full QWERTY-keyboard that slides out (in one direction only this time), and is clearly aimed at web browsing or instant messaging.
Both of these phones are being exhibited not at CTIA 2006, but at the Triennale di Milano exhibition in Milan. Perhaps the bright lights and endless slot machines of Vegas put Fujitsu off, or maybe no-one had told them a full-scale mobile telecoms exhibition was going on!

Waterproof phone with fingerprint sensor

A uthenTec, the world leading provider of fingerprint sensors and solutions, announced that NTT DOCOMO is now offering subscribers the world’s first fingerprint-enabled waterproof cell phone, the Fujitsu F-01A handset.

In addition to convenient and easy-to-use security, the phone incorporates AuthenTec’s TrueNav technology for touchpad-like navigational control via AuthenTec’s AES1711 fingerprint sensor.

Waterproof mobile phoneThe Fujitsu F01A is the 17th Fujitsu phone to leverage the convenient security of an AuthenTec fingerprint sensor and the second Fujitsu phone to use AuthenTec's TrueNav user navigation capability.
The Fujitsu F-01 A is based on a Symbian operating system and features a 3.5-inch widescreen VGA touchscreen display, 5.2 megapixel camera with Autofocus, built-in GPS using Mobile Google Maps with Street View, e-Wallet mobile payment capability, and a 1Seg mobile TV tuner.
More than 9 million mobile phones today include an AuthenTec sensor to enhance privacy by securing the device's personal and corporate data (e-mail, photos, contact lists, etc.), provide advanced navigation and personalization functions and support secure m-commerce.
Fujitsu F01A mobile
phoneFujitsu's F-01A is the first product to use AuthenTec's TouchStone packaging technology. Future TouchStone packages will include smaller form factors and multiple color variations.
The leading cause of cell phone returns not covered under warranty is damage from exposure to excess moisture or immersion in water such as in pools and hot tubs. Fujitsu's F-01A waterproof cell phone meets IPX5 and IPX7 specifications, making it capable of submersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. AuthenTec's TouchStone package allows easy integration into various waterproof industrial design configurations by providing the durability & water resistance required for this class of handsets.
Waterproof phone fingerprint sensor security
AuthenTec's TouchStone is a durable, thin profile fingerprint sensor packaging technology which expands aesthetic and product integration options for makers of cell phones, laptop computers, and other consumer electronics.
TouchStone technology combines all the features of AuthenTec's patented TruePrint technology with thin, durable, easy to integrate, waterproof and surface-mountable packaging for today's stylistic cell phone designs. Unlike all other semiconductor components embedded within a cell phone or other consumer electronic device, fingerprint sensors must be durable enough to withstand the common wear and tear experienced on the outside of the phone. TouchStone technology extends the already proven durability of AuthenTec sensors by tripling the protective coating over the fingerprint sensor die.
AuthenTec AES1711 sensor
AuthenTec's AES1711 low power, small form factor sensor for the wireless market is based on TruePrint technology, AuthenTec's patented and unique solution that reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer where a person's true fingerprint resides.
This patented subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to read virtually every fingerprint, every time - a critical requirement in any fingerprint-enabled device. The sensor also combines AuthenTec's TrueNav menu navigation features, TrueFinger anti-spoofing security, and TrueMatch pattern matching to ensure the industry's highest level of security, usability and convenience.

TouchWiz UI Samsung Phone

It is not like if am looking for Widget News in the mobile world, but as i follow the tech world asa whole i do stumble more and more with Widget related news on the mobile industry. not surprising that is something i expected to happen this year. What i did not expected was that the first Widgetized Mobile Desktop could come from Samsung of all the mobile companies. but on the other hand, they didn`t got to be the new #2 (making motorola fall to #3 )in the Mobile Industry in 2007 just because.

Designed for the F480 and F490 High end phones, that give both Iphone and even the yet to Release Xperia X1 the notice that there is going to be another phone up to their level this year. making this year Mobile Phone releases the most exciting year ever when you combine all that is slated from all the companies.

The TouchWiz UI is somewhat like a mix of Iphone Mobile Mac OS X, The Prada, The Viewty and some Windows Vista Like (yes, vista, keep reading) aspects thrown into it.

It counts with a Widgetized Mobile Desktop that takes a page from Windows Vista Sidebar and the Vista desktop where you have a Widgets Sidebar and you can unlock Widgets into the Desktop and drag them around and position them in the same way you do with the top end Vista Gadgets and Silverligtht Gadgets.

Something truly impressive for being a Phone…
it even has a Wallpaper Changer Widget just like the one in the Vista Sidebar or the one So yeah. I love that idea of translating something like that as the idea for a mobile desktop.
Seeing this has convinced me I will get to see al my widget predictions for 2009 to come true well before the year end, maybe even for mid year
But look at the video and judge for yourself.

Samsung BlackJack Pda phone

This powerful device Samsung Blackjack pda phone is both a PDA and also a phone, giving you the ability to stay connected by checking email, sending or receiving text messages, IM or multimedia messages, explore the Internet, watch streaming video or listen to satellite radio or download your own tunes – all with the advantages of simultaneous voice and data.
Get things done when and where you need to with full access to your Outlook inbox, contacts, calendar, notes and tasks. View Microsoft Office document or Adobe PDF attachments. Take advantage of support for multiple email applications that support both personal and business email use.
The is a beautiful looking cell phone that’s dressed in black with nearly straight lines. the BlackJack looks stealthy with ever-so subtle curves that make it fit well in the hand and save it from rectilinear boredom. It’s as thin as the Moto Q , and it is significantly narrower at 2.32″ vs. 2.52″. Like the Dash, the Q is wide and the Q felt too wide for easy one-handed operation. Though the 2.5″ wide Dash feels a tad wide for one-handed use, we managed thanks to its ergonomic curves, something the angular Q lacks. But the BlackJack pocket pc phone is king of one-handed operation since it’s narrow, and curved just enough to not pinch the hand. Like the Dash, the BlackJack has a textured coating (on the back and wrapping around side sections) that feels nice and keeps the phone firmly in even sweaty paws.
The BlackJack mobilephone runs on a 220MHz Texas Instruments OMAP1710 dual core CPU. One core handles PDA functions while the other DSP (phone and some multimedia). The device is average in clock speed and performance by Windows Mobile Smart phone Edition standards, being similar to the Cingular 3125 and T-Mobile SDA, faster than the Motorola Q and a hair faster than the Dash when opening windows and folders and launching applications. While the Samsung i320 had a 416MHz Intel processor that improved overall responsiveness and video playback of our test WMV and AVI files, that faster and more power-hungry CPU probably would have shortened runtimes too much. Video playback of local content in WMV and AVI format is best kept under 350kbps encoding for the Samsung Black Jack Phone. The Dash, though not running a faster CPU, did a bit better playing local video files smoothly at higher bit rates as tested with TCPMP and Windows Media Player.
This samsung cell phone has the usual 64 megs of RAM and 128 megs of flash ROM. RAM is used like RAM in your computer and the BlackJack mobile phone has 28 megs free at boot, which is a few megs higher than the Dash and HTC S620. 55 megs of flash ROM are available to store programs and data. Should you need more storage, get a MicroSD memory card. We tested our BlackJack with several brands and capacities of card up to 2 gigs and it worked fine.

Samsung i550/i550w review: Low-key all-in-one

Fascinating as they are, ultra high-end handsets are not everybody's cup of tea. In fact, the good old mid-range is the bread and butter for every successful mobile phone company, for that's what gets those sales numbers right. As we see it, Samsung i550 might just be the phone to perfectly fit this description. It doesn't yell expensive out loud, but has great all-round functionality and might just become tomorrow's classic.

Key features:
  • 2.6" 262K-color TFT display of QVGA resolution
  • 3G with HSDPA
  • Trackball navigation
  • Built-in GPS receiver
  • Symbian OS with S60 user interface
    Wi-Fi (Samsung i550w only)
  • 3 megapixel camera with auto focus
  • MicroSD card slot
  • 3.5mm stereo audio jack
  • FM radio
  • Decent battery life
  • Bluetooth with A2DP support

Main disadvantages:

  • Tri-band GSM support only
  • Trackball is somewhat slow
  • No two-step shutter key
  • No Wi-Fi (Samsung i550)
  • A bit too conservative looks
  • Video recoding limited to QVGA resolution
  • Awkward soft key layout
  • No RDS

So for now, Samsung i550 is the only handset in this market niche and that seems a good enough stepping stone to success.

Samsung D900 review: Slim slider extreme

The slimmest slider in the world is already on the market. Samsung D900 (12.9 mm thick when closed) offers almost maximum equipment. It has also been given a special final touch: a 3 megapixel camera and a superb display. Now try to imagine it all in a stylish sliding body. The price, however, is rather high.

Key Features:

  • Stylish design of mere 12.9 mm thickness

  • Brilliant display with QVGA resolution
    Comfortable keypad

  • 3 megapixel camera with auto focus

  • Multi-field phonebook with thousand entries

  • Internal memory of nearly 60 MB, extendable through
  • microSD cards Applications for viewing Office documents

  • TV out GPRS and EDGE Class 10

  • MP3 player

  • Bluetooth

  • Main Disadvantages:

    • Body is made of cheap-looking plastic material

    • Significant resistance of the sliding mechanism No 3G

    • The phone needs to be activated to visualize missed events

    • No ringing profiles

    • Limited melody choice for SMS alerts

    • Navigation key's center opens the WAP browser when the phone is on stand-by

    • Calls cannot be filtered

    • Java applications cannot be transferred via Bluetooth

    • Images cannot be saved straight to the memory card

    • No FM radio

    • No Infrared port

    • Fingerprints are visible on the display

iPhone vs Nokia E71 vs HPiPac914

Here's another head to head to head with three very different handsets aiming to fight it out amongst themselves for supremacy. ...
This is interesting because it pits essentially the 3 big OS' against each other,
iPhone's OSX, Nokia E71's Symbian S60 and HP iPac running on Windows Mobile. Physically the handsets are pretty similar in size and also have similar features like 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS and most importantly also offer e-mail solutions to compete against Blackberry's monopoly over the e-mail market.
Looking at it initially it's easy to notice the Nokia E71 is the slimmest out of the the three with the HP being the fattest! But the HP does pack some junk in that trunk, yes a whopping 1940mAh battery! Eat that you skinny handsets!
